Dear Bonnie and Sam,
God has given me such an amazing answer to a thought I had of “Why do we go to all this hoopla just to get married?” Is it just tradition that men made up? I felt as though the Lord said, “I instituted marriage and refer to the church as my bride! I want you to learn what it means to adorn your life for me as you enjoy the process of adorning yourselves for each other and commit your lives to one another!” Oh my goodness! He is always so good! We have asked to honor Him in this process, and He has blessed us with such joy! Look at all the ways He refers to the preparations of His church and bride! Let’s have fun, stay on budget, and accept all that the Lord is doing in this ceremony and our lives!
Love you so much, mom xoxox
Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So, the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man and brought her to the man. Genesis 2:18, 20-22
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” Revelation 19:7, 8 (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
Lift up your eyes and look around; all your children gather and come to you. As surely as I live,” declares the Lord, “you will wear them all as ornaments; you will put them on, like a bride. Isaiah 49:18
The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. John 3:29
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21:2
Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” Revelation 19:6-8 (The fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.)
I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13
